Kindergarten 5-year-olds are taught in a very structured environment. Every morning we begin with prayer, pledges, and meeting at the helper board and calendar to discover what each new day will bring.
Our structured Phonics, Arithmetic & Number Skills, Social Studies, Science, and Art programs are dynamic programs from the Abeka curriculum. Phonics & Reading stresses a solid foundation with vowels, consonants, and word-blends. As students begin to identify words by sight and sound, they are encouraged with stronger word recognition and phonemic awareness. Since the reading of words is generally learned at an individual pace, the children are separated into reading groups. The kindergartners love to learn to read while learning comprehension for critical-thinking skills.
Number Skills Arithmetic - Abeka Number skills, along with number writing, provides a basis for the child to see relationships between one truth and another, encouraging precise and exact thinking, while they are learning to apply mathematics skillfully. They are guided to finish each job thoroughly, orderly, alertly, and carefully. As the students practice, they see how things work together in order to function in daily life.
The students in K-5 learn social skills, character traits, readiness skills, and motor skills. Social studies covers Community Helpers, Our Country, Children Around the World, and current issues from God's World-Early Edition. Our God's World science program provides hands-on experience while discovering the world around us.
Bible Truths from BJU Press is used for our Bible Time which includes doctrinal truths, character traits, memory verses, songs, and catechisms which are covered daily. Our Bible times on Fridays are spent in Chapel with K3-2nd grades.
We use BJU Press for our pre-cursive handwriting.
Classroom computer and art classes are conducted throughout the week, along with library and music as well.
Class Verse: Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. I Timothy 4:12
